Kytäjä-Jukola 2010 wishes to thank all the competitors, spectators, volunteers and partners for the succesfull orienteering celebration.

Kaukametsäläiset association and Finnish Orienteering Federation together carry out an enquiry for all participants of Kytäjä-Jukola. With the enquiry organizers want to gather information of succeeding/failing in arrangements of the event. The feedback will be essential in developing the Jukola event.

Hundreds of teams are still making their way through the backwoods of Kytäjä, but return traffic will soon reach its peak.

20 best teams of this year’s Jukola relay received their medals in bright sunshine.

First 200 teams have now crossed the Jukola relay finish line. 1,535 teams started their race at 11 p.m. on Saturday evening.

By 6 a.m. on Sunday over 400 competitors had sought first aid. “It has been busy, but that was expected,” says Riitta Bäckman, first aid manager of Kytäjä-Jukola.

This year’s mass starts really lived up to their name. Some 1,100 anchors alone participated in the 9 a.m. mass start.

This year’s second team, Kalevan Rasti, finished no less than seven minutes behind the lead. Over ten minutes more passed before the third team made it to the finish.

Team anchors (7th leg) who had not started their run before 8.45 took part in a mass start at 9.00. After the anchors at 9.15, there is a mass start for other runners (legs 2 – 6) who still haven’t started their legs.

Norwegian Halden SK is the winner of Kytäjä-Jukola 2010. Halden’s anchor Olav Lundanes kept his strong leading position, despite the fierce chase by Thierry Gueorgiou.

The muddy competition centre in Kytäjä got a quick facelift when the sun finally broke out from behind the wall of clouds. The light phenomenon occurred at 6:10 am.

It seems the winner of the relay is settled during the second to last leg of the relay with Halden in clear lead. However, competition behind the leading team is intense. Kalevan Rasti and Lynx have the strongest hold on the medal positions. Vaajakosken Terä is competing for a medal position as well. All three teams are within less than three minutes.

Halden SK’s Finnish Mats Haldin finished his leg without any bigger mistakes. The team increased their lead to over 11 minutes. Behind Halden, the competition for the follow-up places is tough.

Halden SK set the pace on the short fourth leg, as well. Mattias Karlsson increased Halden’s lead to almost 9 minutes.

Norwegian team Halden SK ripped through the Jukola relay third leg with a five minute lead to the second team Tampereen Pyrintö.

The first five teams came to the 2^nd change-over inside 11 seconds. Norwegian teams occupied the first three places; two teams from Halden in the lead and NTNUI 2^nd team nine seconds behind.

The previous Jukola Relay in Hyvinkää 29 years earlier is still remembered by the people as “Mud Jukola.”

The Mikkeli-Jukola’s winning team Norwegian Kristiansand OK got disqualified in the first leg. Jostein Andersen missed one punch and so one of the favourite team is not competing anymore.

The Finnish team Vaajakosken Terä led the Jukola relay in the first change-over. Team’s first leg runner was Antti Anttonen.

The Jukola Relay in Kytäjä has started! Altogether 1,535 teams sprinted off to the sounds of a fanfare in the rainy dusk of the Kytäjä-Jukola grounds. As many as 1,555 teams had entered for the competition; eventually, twenty of these teams did not participate.

The courses for the Jukola Relay are as difficult as we could make them, said course planner Ari Kattainen an hour before the start of the men’s relay.

The special theme music for the Kytäjä-Jukola event is the handwriting of the Hyvinkää Orchestra intendant, musician Charlotta Kivistö. In the course of the event, visitors will hear the “Kytäjä-Jukola 2010” theme as well as a longer composition based on that theme.

”The Kytäjä-Jukola means a great deal for the City of Hyvinkää. For that period, we have twice as many people as we normally have, and this brings great publicity for Hyvinkää. Everything has gone very well,” explains Sari-Leena Humppi, Head of Communications in the City of Hyvinkää.

Tampereen Pyrintö, the winning team of Venla relay, was truly satisfied after the successful competition. The team’s performance was fairly steady and stable, and they did not allow little mistakes to disturb them.

Anchor runner Anni-Maija Fincke from Venla relay winning team Tampereen Pyrintö described her feelings right after the finish: “Absolutely amazing! Girls were waiting for me, what could be better!”

The amazing run from the Tampereen Pyrintö’s anchor Anni-Maija Fincke brought Pyrintö its fourth Venla relay victory in club’s history. At the same time the competition got a Finnish winner after two years.

Dana Brochkova the runner of the Swedish team Domnarvets GoIF brought her team in the lead to the third change-over in Venla relay.

“Amazing”, Tytti Kirvesmies, 17, describes her feelings after running the first leg of Venla relay. She came in eighth, only 17 seconds after the lead. “It was great to see the lead running just a little ahead”.

Swedish team IFK Moras OK was in the lead of Venla relay after the first leg. Three seconds after the lead came Domnarvets GoIF, one of the expected top teams.  The best Finnish team, Kangasniemen Kalske, came third.

Jukola relay 2010 was officially opened with a festive ceremony. Both the competition flag and Finnish national flag were raised to the sound of Kytäjä-Jukola theme, composed for this occasion.

Venla relay started with 1,082 teams. Only 20 of the entered teams did not participate in the start. The relay started at 2 p.m. sharp with an electronic signal in dry weather.

Tapani Partanen, Venla relay course setter, received a phone call confirming that all controls are ready and everything is in order. “This means that the competition can start at 2 p.m.” Partanen says.

Information centre manager Mia Borgenström says that the centre has been able to provide help for all its customers. On Saturday morning the information stand had fewer visitors than expected.

The Jaanankallio field woke up to a sunny competition day. Flags have been raised and the area is swarming with competitors.

It's two days left to Kytäjä-jukola and all the operations are focused to the competition centre. This means that also the competition office serves at the competition centre.
 

The Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) is going to present Jukola and Venla Relay online through http://www.yle.fi/urheilu/suorat_lahetykset_netissa/.

Kytäjä-Jukola will host the biggest rush of orienteers than any earlier Jukola Relay with 15,295 competitors. A total of 1,553 teams (10,871 competitors) entered for the Jukola Relay and 1,106 teams (4,424 competitors) for the Venla Relay. All of these numbers set a new record, respectively. The late entry for Kytäjä-Jukola closed on 10 June 2010 with only a week to go before the event.

Pre-reserved camping and service tent areas are now numbered and the maps over the areas and numbered reservations can be seen on the website.

GPS tracking system will be used in both Venla and Jukola Relay. GPS transmitters will be placed for about 20 top teams for each leg.

Over 15,000 orienteers will take part in the Kytäjä-Jukola Relay, and nearly 40,000 spectators are expected to visit the competition area. In order to avoid large-scale traffic jams, people coming from a longer distance will be guided to use the six designated entrance junctions to the parking area. People arriving from the City of Hyvinkää are encouraged to use public transport or bicycles.

There is an excellent opportunity to get a touch of the real Kytäjä atmosphere just before the relay. The terrain for model orienteering is located just beside the Competition Centre and it is restricted to the competition terrain. The Jukola Course Setter team has drafted four different courses.

The website of Kytäjä-Jukola will be transferred to a new and more effective server. The transfer happens on Wednesday June 2nd. During the transfer any material can’t be added to the site and the site can’t be edited. All the open forms and forums will be temporarily closed from Tuesday evening, June 1st to Thursday, June 3rd.

The start of Kytäjä-Jukola relay is three weeks away. General instructions for all participants is now available on this web site.

The main entry for Kytäjä-Jukola closed on May 17. By closing time, a record-breaking number of teams had been entered. For the first time in the history of the Jukola competition, the number of Jukola teams hits over 1,500 and the number of Venla teams over 1,000.

After a very snowy winter, the terrain of Kytäjä-Usmi is again ready for the orienteers preparing for the Kytäjä-Jukola Relay. The training courses for spring 2010 are available from May 1 until June 20.

Ensure your access to Kytäjä-Jukola Media Centre by filling in the accreditation form. Media accreditation process for Kytäjä-Jukola will close on June 4.

One of the organizations behind the Jukola relay, the Finnish Orienteering Federation, celebrates its 75 years of activity in 2010. Several activities will be arranged, and Kytäjä-Jukola is one of the jubilee events.

The Nordic Orienteering Tour (NORT) will be held in 17th June 2010 from 4pm to 8pm in the municipal center of Tuusula.

The competition will be held only two days before the orienteering event Kytäjä-Jukola Relay which is located only 35 km from Tuusula.

The snow is melting rapidly and the scene is starting to get ready for the Jukola relay this summer. Hibernation is over, organizers and volunteers are finalizing their plans and measurements, the spring makes the fields around the competition centre bustle with activity.

Arvo Kantola, the controller of the competition, returns to Kytäjä after 29 years and is looking forward to the event. In the previous Jukola arranged in Kytäjä in 1981, Kantola was the course controller and the memories from that event are still vivid. According to the controller, the organizers of  Kytäjä-Jukola 2010 are on schedule.

Kytäjä-Jukolas organization has got reinforcement from Matthias Merz, the swiss World champion 2007 in orienteering. Merz represents in Finland the sports club Rajamäen Rykmentti. He will make test runs during the spring on the Kytäjä-Jukola routes, make translations in the office and help in working out trainings and in serving foreign orienteering clubs. He will also appear on the TV's advance brodcasts from Jukola and make interviews with Tuomas Tervo during the Jukola Relay on June 19-20.

The Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE and the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF) have made an agreement about television broadcasting this year’s major orienteering events. Among other events, the agreement covers broadcasting the Jukola Relay, which will be organised in Hyvinkää on 19-20 June 2010. In addition to Jukola Relay, YLE will broadcast Nordic O-Tour, which is organised in several Nordic countries, and the Orienteering World Championships, which is held in Norway.

The first stage of entry for the Kytäjä-Jukola competition closed on March 1. By this date, altogether 1,775 teams had entered the competition. Of these teams 1,020 were Jukola teams and 755 Venla teams. This number of entries sets a new record for the first stage of entry. In addition, for the first time in the history of the competition, the number of Jukola teams exceeded one thousand.

The Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen has agreed to act as the patron of Kytäjä-Jukola, this coming summer’s Jukola Relay. He was invited to be the patron of the competition on Thursday 14th of January.

The entry to Kytäjä-Jukola relay was opened December 4, 2009. Lower entry fees apply until March 1, 2010, but entering to the event is possible until May 17, 2010 with higher fees. Altogether over 14,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, making it the largest sport event in Finland.

Main Course Planner Ari Kattainen says he is satisfied with the current state of the courses. Course Supervisor Juha Liukkonen has approved all the control points for both Jukola and Venla Relay. Course Supervisor Liukkonen and Contest Supervisor Arvo Kantola have also approved courses, course lengths and estimated course times. "We are very satisfied with the teamwork between supervisors and course planners", says Kattainen.

The first training packages for Kytäjä-Jukola are now available. You can order the training package of the terrain adjacent to the competition area by filling in the form which you find online. They are available online from the Kytäjä-Jukola webpage under the competition info link beginning on August 15th.
