Arriving at Kytäjä-Jukola 2010

Over 15,000 orienteers will take part in the Kytäjä-Jukola Relay, and nearly 40,000 spectators are expected to visit the competition area. In order to avoid large-scale traffic jams, people coming from a longer distance will be guided to use the six designated entrance junctions to the parking area. People arriving from the City of Hyvinkää are encouraged to use public transport or bicycles.

World champion Matthias Merz participates in building Kytäjä-Jukola

Kytäjä-Jukolas organization has got reinforcement from Matthias Merz, the swiss World champion 2007 in orienteering. Merz represents in Finland the sports club Rajamäen Rykmentti. He will make test runs during the spring on the Kytäjä-Jukola routes, make translations in the office and help in working out trainings and in serving foreign orienteering clubs. He will also appear on the TV's advance brodcasts from Jukola and make interviews with Tuomas Tervo during the Jukola Relay on June 19-20.

Kytäjä-Jukola 2010 broadcasted live on YLE channels

The Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE and the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF) have made an agreement about television broadcasting this year’s major orienteering events. Among other events, the agreement covers broadcasting the Jukola Relay, which will be organised in Hyvinkää on 19-20 June 2010. In addition to Jukola Relay, YLE will broadcast Nordic O-Tour, which is organised in several Nordic countries, and the Orienteering World Championships, which is held in Norway.

The number of entries so far hits a new record

The first stage of entry for the Kytäjä-Jukola competition closed on March 1. By this date, altogether 1,775 teams had entered the competition. Of these teams 1,020 were Jukola teams and 755 Venla teams. This number of entries sets a new record for the first stage of entry. In addition, for the first time in the history of the competition, the number of Jukola teams exceeded one thousand.

The entry to Kytäjä-Jukola relay was opened December 4, 2009. Lower entry fees apply until March 1, 2010, but entering to the event is possible until May 17, 2010 with higher fees. Altogether over 14,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, making it the largest sport event in Finland.

Main Course Planner Ari Kattainen says he is satisfied with the current state of the courses. Course Supervisor Juha Liukkonen has approved all the control points for both Jukola and Venla Relay.
